Safer Internet Day – Tuesday 5th February 2019

We took part in on Tuesday 5th February. This year’s theme was ‘Together for a Better Internet’ – everyone has their part to play in making the internet a safe place for our children.

During the day we shared “5 Top Tips” for keeping children aged 7-11 safe online via the school’s Twitter account (@GaytonJunior). The top tips can be found below: please share them with your children.

Top Tip 1 – Choose to be aware! Make sure you know the rules about how to behave and stay safe. Look out for buttons that let you block, mute and report those who aren’t behaving & ask an adult for help if you are unsure.

Top Tip 2 – Make sensible choices! Always keep your personal information safe. Check with an adult before signing up to a new game or online service and before downloading a new app or game.

Top Tip 3 – Ask if it’s okay! Always think about how your actions might make others feel. Be a respectful friend online & ask permission before you share something about someone else.

Top Tip 4 – Be a role model! Always be kind to others online & support your friends. You can help your friends by showing them how to block & report in games & apps or talking to a trusted adult with them.

Top Tip 5 – Ask for help! If you’re unsure about something you see online, or anything makes you feel worried or confused then ask a trusted adult for help and advice.
