Developing a love of music for every child
At Gayton Junior School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience, enjoy and create music.
Music is an important part of life at our school. Through singing, performing, listening, composing and learning to play instruments, we aim to develop our pupils’ musical skills, confidence and creativity, while giving them opportunities to discover the enjoyment and sense of community that music can bring.
Our Music Development Plan sets out our vision and priorities for music education across the school. It outlines how we provide a broad and ambitious musical curriculum, opportunities for pupils to perform and participate, instrumental and vocal learning, and opportunities to experience live and recorded music.
We are committed to ensuring that music is accessible to all pupils and that children have opportunities to develop their musical interests and talents both within and beyond the classroom.
Our musical opportunities include:
- 🎵 A carefully planned music curriculum from Year 3 to Year 6
- 🎤 Regular singing and whole-school musical experiences
- 🎸 Opportunities to learn and develop instrumental skills
- 🎼 Opportunities to compose, perform and listen to a wide range of music

- 🎶 Opportunities to experience live music and work with visiting musicians
- 🌍 Exposure to music from different cultures, traditions and periods
