At Gayton Junior School, we are committed to developing the whole child. Through our curriculum, wider enrichment opportunities, assemblies and everyday school life, we nurture pupils’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development, preparing them for life in modern Britain and encouraging them to become the very best versions of themselves.
Spiritual Development
We encourage pupils to be curious about the world around them and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. Through subjects such as RE, PSHE, English and the arts, children develop a sense of awe and wonder, learn to appreciate different viewpoints and are encouraged to think deeply about themselves and others.
Moral Development
Pupils are taught the importance of making positive choices, taking responsibility for their actions and understanding right from wrong. Through our behaviour expectations, restorative approaches, PSHE lessons and everyday interactions, children develop honesty, integrity and respect for others.
Social Development
We provide many opportunities for pupils to work collaboratively, develop positive relationships and contribute to school life. Leadership roles such as School Council, Prefects and Mini Leaders, alongside clubs, performances, educational visits and residential experiences, help children develop confidence, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
Cultural Development
Our curriculum celebrates the rich diversity of Britain and the wider world – as well as our very own school community. Pupils learn about different cultures, religions, traditions and beliefs through subjects such as RE, History, Geography, Music, Art and PSHE, as well as themed events and celebrations throughout the year. We encourage pupils to value diversity, challenge discrimination and respect the views and experiences of others.
