Remote Education Statement
Ridgeway Infant School & Gayton Junior School
Purpose
The Blagreaves Federation is committed to ensuring that pupils continue to have access to learning where attendance at school is not possible due to exceptional circumstances.
Our priority is always for pupils to attend school in person wherever possible, as this provides the best educational experience. Remote education is not intended to replace face-to-face teaching but may be provided where appropriate to support continuity of learning.
When Remote Education Will Be Provided
Remote education may be provided in circumstances such as:
- unexpected school closure due to severe weather, loss of utilities or other emergency situations;
- where individual pupils are unable to attend school for an agreed period due to medical treatment, recovery from an operation or other exceptional circumstances;
- where remote education forms part of a reasonable adjustment or support agreed with the Headteacher.
The school will determine whether remote education is appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
How Learning Will Be Provided
Learning will normally be provided through Microsoft Teams, enabling pupils to access learning resources and communicate with their teacher where appropriate.
Where digital access is not possible, the school will endeavour to provide paper-based learning packs. However, in emergency situations such as severe weather or other unexpected school closures, it may not always be possible for paper copies to be collected or delivered immediately.
Curriculum
Remote education will, wherever possible, reflect the curriculum being taught in school, although some practical activities may need to be adapted.
Teachers will provide learning that is appropriate to pupils’ age, stage of learning and individual needs. Where appropriate, adaptations will be made for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Expectations
Staff will:
- provide learning activities that are appropriate and achievable;
- upload or distribute work as soon as reasonably practicable;
- respond to queries where appropriate during the normal school day;
- continue to promote pupils’ wellbeing and safeguarding.
Pupils are expected to:
- engage with learning as fully as they are able;
- complete work to the best of their ability;
- use online platforms safely and appropriately;
- seek support from school if they experience difficulties accessing learning.
Parents and carers are encouraged to:
- support their child in establishing a suitable routine for learning;
- encourage engagement with the activities provided;
- contact the school if they experience difficulties accessing remote learning.
Access to Technology
If families experience difficulties accessing remote learning due to limited access to technology or the internet, they should contact the school as soon as possible so that appropriate support can be considered.
Safeguarding and Online Safety
The school’s safeguarding responsibilities continue during periods of remote education.
Staff, pupils and parents are expected to use online platforms safely and responsibly in accordance with the school’s:
- Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy;
- Online Safety Policy.
Any safeguarding concerns should be reported to the school immediately using the usual safeguarding procedures.
