PSHE is a non-statutory subject. At Gayton, we tailor our PSHE programme to reflect the needs of our pupils: the programme aims to equip pupils with a sound understanding of risk and the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe and informed decisions. The programme incorporates the DfE non-compulsory Citizenship programme of study and also the Relationships and Health Education framework that was made compulsory in 2021.
By the end of Year 4, children should be able to:
- Demonstrate that they can work in a pair and a small group
- Demonstrate active listening skills
- Speak in front of others
- Negotiate in small groups
- Coming to a ‘consensus’
- Recognise simple body language
- Understand verbal and non-verbal communication
- Demonstrate that they know the process for decision making
- Explore factors which influence choosing
- Recognise the influences over choice and decisions; both internal and external
