This page provides information for parents and carers on the end of year expectations for children at Gayton. Please click on the relevant Year Group to view the expectations for your child. The new National Curriculum outlines these expectations as being the minimum requirements your child must meet in each year group in order to ensure continued progress (please note we have only included Number objectives for Maths: there are further objectives for measures, shape and data).
All the objectives will be worked on throughout the year and will be the focus of direct teaching. Any extra support you can provide in helping your child to achieve these is greatly valued.
As always, teaching will be differentiated to meet the different needs of our children.
Schools are no longer expected to use the traditional ‘levels’ to assess children in the future. The old system of ‘levels’ does not transfer over to the new objectives within the curriculum and the new curriculum, in some areas, is roughly 12-18 months more challenging for pupils. Expectations are higher within the new curriculum.
The language we will be using to communicate our assessment to you is as follows:
Emerging
A pupil will be deemed to be EMERGING towards the expectations for their year group if they do not meet all of the statements outlined by the end of the academic year.
Expected
A pupil will be deemed to be working as EXPECTED when they can satisfy their teacher that they meet all of the expectations for their age.
Exceeding
A pupil will be deemed to be EXCEEDING the expectations when, in addition to the meeting all of the expectations for their age, they can confidently use and apply these skills across the whole curriculum.
Additionally, teachers will be able to report whether your child has made good progress over the year, giving details of curriculum areas where they have achieved well and areas that need more development and support.
What happens if my child is ‘emerging’?
Plenty of support will be given to your child to ensure he or she makes as much progress as possible each year at Gayton and, in some cases, this may be as additional support from teaching assistants in or out of lessons for their specific needs. Always focus on the progress your child is making academically, personally and socially!
